Y1 Newsletter Autumn 2018
Year 1 had a fantastic day out at Danby! We learnt about the Woodlings that live in Crow wood and we saw some of their houses! We collected things from the wood to use to make our own Woodling characters. We even met the Wish Dragon and told him our secret wishes!
Year 1 and Year 2 presented their palm Sunday liturgy to the school today. We shared the gospel and acted out the arrival of Jesus in Jerusalem. The children also waved palm leaves which they had made and shouted “Hosanna! Hosanna! Praise to the King!”
Year 1 really enjoyed their trip to the Fire Station today. We learnt about all of the equipment they use, sat in the fire engine and even got to use the hose! Mrs Rogers got dressed up too! More photos too follow……
Year 1 had an amazing time at the Centre for Life. We visited the planetarium and learnt about the stars and planets. Then we got to explore the different zones in the centre and to watch a live science show which some of the children took part in. We even got to drink from a […]
This afternoon in Year 1 we have been decorating cakes for our Macmillan coffee morning tomorrow. We used sweets and icing to make them look like aliens!
Year 1 thoroughly enjoyed the visit of the Ward Bros truck today. We learnt about how to be safe on the road and what the inside of the truck looked like. It even had bunk beds! We all got to sit in the driver’s seat too!
In Year 1 we have been learning about the different seasons. We worked in groups to sort pictures and captions to match the four different seasons: Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. It also gave us a chance to practice our skills of working together in a group.
Today we had a visit from Caroline who talked to us about how important it is to brush our teeth and showed us what would happen if we didn’t! Then we all brushed our teeth with our brand new tooth brushes!
To celebrate the end of our topic, Rio de Vida, we had a Brazilian Carnival! The children wore headdresses that they made earlier this week and dressed up in their brightest coloured clothes.
